St. Johns Bridge Portland, Oregon

We frequently hear visitors to our booth at Portland Saturday Market mistakenly call the St. Johns Bridge "Cathedral Bridge" and the Willamette River "St. Johns River"?
Further, we heard one visitor tell his guests that the bridge was built over 200 years ago . . . Lewis and Clark would have really appreciated having the bridge waiting for them!

Come to Mesman Images booth 216 near the food court and see our pictures/canvases and digital paintings of Portland's most beautiful bridge or check out our YouTube video about the making of the picture below.

Dean Caldwell, who climbed El Capitan in 1970, is at Portland Saturday Market every weekend

If you didn't attend the showing of the documentary Valley Uprising last night, you missed the story of our very own Dean Caldwell climbing Yosemite's El Capitan in 1970.  We don't know if one has to be crazy or immensely courageous to climb these very beautiful, vertical, and impressive granite walls.
Read Life Magaziene's article of Dean's drama.

Valley Uprising was an extremely interesting documentary, showing the battle between those intense climbers, striving to be the first, best, or quickest to the top, and the park rangers, who were determined to enforce rules that restricted the freedoms of the adventurers who saw Yosemite National Park as their climbers' paradise.

Today, Dean has traded his climbing shoes for woodworking tools, as he creates inventive and practicle jewelry displays under the name Ear Nest.  His product's design is so original, it earned him a patent.

Every weekend, you can find him in the 200 row at Portland Saturday Market in Waterfront Park.

After buying one of Dean's jewelry displays, head north in the 200 row and check out Mesman Images' (space 216) Photography and Digital paintings.

Weekend at Portland Oregon's Waterfront

Did you know that there are actually three different weekend markets at Portland's Waterfront?

The oldest, existing since 1974, is the only juried one.  Portland Saturday Market (open on Sundays too!) doesn't allow imports from China, nor can its vendors sell items that aren't handmade or selfmade.  Portland Saturday Market is not to be confused with the Skidmore Market and World Market, both of which are set up right next to the Portland Saturday Market, and selling items originating from anywhere in the world.

Check out the quality of the creative items sold at Portland Saturday Market  (Sat10am to 5pm and Sun 11am to 4:30pm)  and come visit us at the Mesman Images booth on the waterfront space 216 near the food-court and get 10% off any purchase.

Don't you wish that you could change these frosty winter days in Portland to a warm, sunny day in a lavender field?  Or, like our dogs Lucie and Sophie, spread out on the couch with your favorate toy  and dream, rather than working outdoors like we have to?!

Grotesque Halloween

Last night, Halloween, was the year's last Last Thursday on Alberta, here in Portland.  And. . . it was grotesque!  While on all other Last Thursdays the street was closed to traffic, yesterday it was re-opened and it seemed like the public said, "Let's go elsewhere" . . . Those of us who very much needed to add some sales to our bottom line were there only to watch kids trick-or-treat in the early evening and contemplate the empty streets once it was dark.

What's so terrible is that, we, the artists, who have for years helped to get people interested in Alberta's Art Walk every Last Thursday, have been forgotten as the event has been transformed into  a "Drink Fest".

Hello Portland, . . . how about reinstating an Art Walk on Alberta or elsewhere in the city, to thank Portland's art community for its efforts to put Alberta's Last Thursday on the map.

This weekend, come visit the Mesman Images booth #208 at Portland Saturday Market, beneath the Burnside Bridge.  By the way, the Market is also open on Sundays!

Oregon Landmarks Collage

We've created a collage that combines some of the beautiful destinations in the state of Oregon, the most visited of which is Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge. Also not to miss is Crown Point, with its Vista House overlooking the Gorge. The illuminated buildings of Portland's waterfront skyline are reflected in the Willamette River. Two views of the state's highest peak, Mount Hood, and the magnificant Ecola State Park on the Oregon Coast round out the scenery. The collage wouldn't be complete, however, without J. Seward Johnson's Portland sculpture "Allow Me". Here, the pedestrian's umbrella shields him not from a Portland downpour, but, rather, a light spray from Multnomah Falls. You can Purchase this image on our fine art photography website.

New Vertical St. Johns Bridge Triptych

We've just listed a new version of our Portland St. Johns Bridge triptych. While the one before had square cropped images, this one utilizes the full-frame vertical rectangles. And, as always, these vertical triptychs are perfect for those narrow spaces next to doors, above light switches, or on the side of cabinets. You can purchase this triptych framed or matted from our Fine Art Photography website.LinkLink

Paul Bunyan's Halloween Party

The economy is bad, sales have sunk, summer is over. Portland's Paul Bunyan thought that was reason enough to throw a Halloween Party! You can see the "party picture" on the home page of our Fine Art Photography website. By the way, the snapshots used for the picture are in our opinion from the greatest carnival in the world -Fasnacht in Basel Switzerland-.
